How To Upload On Canvas

Uploading a File to Your Course

By default, you are given grand MB (i GB) of storage infinite inside your Sheet course, which allows you to upload files to share with your course and students.

This grade storage differs from grouping and personal storage quotas. Please refer to our "Understanding Files and File Storage Quotas in Canvas" article for more information on each storage type.

If y'all take reached the 1000 MB (1 GB) limit in your Sheet grade, you may contact sheet@yale.edu to increase storage size up to a limit of 2000 MB (2.1 GB). Any larger limits may require a consult to evaluate file storage usage.

Uploading a New File

  1. In the Course Navigation, click on "Files."

  1. In the top-right corner, click the "Upload" button.

  1. In the window pop-upward that opens to search your estimator's files, click the title of the file you desire to upload and click the "Open up" button.

  1. You lot can also add to your Canvas "Files" area by dragging and dropping the item from a file window (i.e. your desktop or downloads folder) directly into the Sail file repository.
    1. Left-click the championship of the file y'all wish to add and drag the file to your open browser. Your file will automatically upload.

Uploading a Duplicate / New Version of a File

If a file with the aforementioned name already exists in the folder where you lot are uploading your file, you volition be asked if you lot want to replace or rename it.

  1. To create a indistinguishable of the file with the same name, click the "Change Name" button.
    1. This option will create a duplicate re-create of the file with a different proper name.
  2. To upload the files as a new version of the existing file, click the "Replace" push button.
    1. This replaces the existing file with the new one and updates annihilation linking to it with the new file.

Confirming Upload and View of a File

  1. A progress bar will appear at the top of screen tracking the progress of your file upload.

  1. Once the upload is completed, you can view the file by clicking on the file proper name.
